The BRSA is an active member of the New Jersey Utility Authority Joint Insurance Fund’s Executive Safety Committee.  In addition to participating in monthly Executive Safety Committee Meetings and training through out the State, the BRSA maintains its own safety committee and holds monthly meetings at the Authority.  The BRSA participates in the NJUA JIF’s annual Safety Expositions in addition to providing its staff with a well rounded safety training and awareness program.

The BRSA  has received recognition from the NJUA JIF for achieving consecutive “Perfect Scores in the NJUA JIF Safety Incentive Program” since 2004 and has received the Water Environment Federation’s distinguished, George W. Burke Jr. Safety Award.

The BRSA has in place a safety incentive program which rewards staff members for having a proactive approach to safety. Actively participating and successfully completing the required criteria qualifies the participating employee for recognition from the BRSA’s Board of Commissioners.

The George W. Burke, Jr. AWARD
Award Description

The George W. Burke, Jr. Award is presented annually by the Federation to a municipal or industrial wastewater facility for its safety program and safety record. This award was established in 1982 in honor of George W. Burke, Jr. for his any years of service to both the water environment field and the Federation as staff manager of technical service. Mr. Burke was instrumental in developing the Federation’s annual safety survey and assisting in the production of several safety training aids and promotional packets. The purpose of this award is to encourage an active and effective safety program in municipal and industrial wastewater facilities.
